Charlotte Kitchen — Designed for Connection and Calm
In this Charlotte home, the kitchen was reimagined to support connection, ease, and sensory balance. The new layout opens the space for larger gatherings, with an expanded island at the heart of the room — perfect for meal prep, serving, and family connection. Additional lighting and a larger gas stove bring both functionality and comfort, while thoughtfully relocated plumbing, electric, and gas lines ensure the flow of the space feels seamless and intentional.
The client’s preference for black was beautifully integrated through contrast with the abundant natural light that pours in, creating a sense of serenity and grounding. By keeping the upper walls free of cabinetry and floating shelves, the design maintains openness and limits visual clutter — supporting focus and reducing overstimulation, especially for family members with ADHD.
Accessibility and movement were key design priorities. Extra space between the island and cooking wall allows multiple family members to cook together comfortably and ensures a wheelchair user can navigate with ease. Moving the sink to the opposite wall keeps the expansive island clear for food preparation and buffet-style entertaining, honoring the family’s love for gathering.
The European white oak herringbone flooring anchors the space — its natural pattern adding warmth and texture without overwhelming the senses. The result is a kitchen that feels both elevated and deeply human: a space designed for belonging, nourishment, and calm.
Huntersville Kitchen — Designed for Mexican Charm and Connection
In this Charlotte ranch home, the kitchen was thoughtfully refreshed to bring light, culture, and connection into a compact footprint. Because the home offers limited natural light, the design centered around a blue and off white color palette — a combination that reflects clarity and openness, while visually expanding the space.
A handcrafted Mexican tile backsplash introduces a touch of warmth and cultural storytelling, infusing the kitchen with pattern, color, and heritage. To maintain accessibility and stay within budget, the original layout and footprint were preserved, minimizing plumbing and electrical changes while creating an airy atmosphere that feels both grounded and cheerful.
By pairing function with cultural expression, the result is a kitchen that feels inviting, personal, and alive with meaning — a daily reminder that good design doesn’t just transform space; it nourishes the spirit and celebrates where we come from.
